About Fallout 4
Fallout 4 is Bethesda Game Studios' open-world RPG set in the ruins of Boston, 200 years after a nuclear war. You emerge from a fallout shelter to search for your missing son, exploring the wasteland, meeting factions and companions, and building settlements. It has won many Game of the Year awards and has a huge modding community. It is rated PEGI 18. The makers recommend a GTX 780 or R9 290X and 8 GB of memory.
What Fallout 4 needs
In plain words: to play at all it needs basic graphics: built-in graphics on a modern processor, or an old entry-level card, and to play it well the makers suggest an entry-level graphics card, with 8GB of memory.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent | NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent |

| Memory (RAM) | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Storage | 30 GB available space | 30 GB available space |

Will my computer play Fallout 4?
On most computers we find the graphics card for you. Add your processor and memory, and we will tell you if it plays, and what to upgrade if not.
A low-spec PC or a high-spec PC?
This is a light game: almost any of our gaming PCs will run it comfortably at high settings.
On a PC that only just meets the minimum, the game will start and play, but on low settings: simpler shadows and textures, shorter view distances and fewer frames each second, so fast moments can feel less smooth. A 1080p screen is the sensible match.
On a PC that meets or beats the recommended spec, you can turn the settings up: sharper textures, proper shadows and lighting, more detail in the distance, and a smoother picture. A stronger PC also lets you use a sharper 1440p or high-refresh screen.

Questions about Fallout 4 on PC
What graphics card do I need for Fallout 4?
The makers say the minimum is NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent, and they recommend NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent. In plain words: an entry-level graphics card for a good experience.
How much memory (RAM) does Fallout 4 need?
At least 8GB, and 8GB is recommended. 16GB is the sensible amount for a gaming PC today.
Is Fallout 4 multiplayer?
It is mainly a single-player game.
Can a gaming PC from Sandbox Computers run Fallout 4?
Yes. 109 of our PCs meet the recommended spec, from £579. They are built and tested in Worcester.
How we match: we compare the graphics card and the memory in each PC with the makers' spec, because those decide most of how a game runs. For very new or demanding games, ask us and we will check the processor too. More help: graphics cards explained, how much RAM, which screen.
