Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis: PC requirements and the PC you need

About Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis

From SEGA, Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis is an online action RPG that costs nothing to play. As one of the ARKS defenders, you explore the open planet Halpha with players from around the world, taking part in large real-time battles against powerful enemies, alone or in co-op groups. The character creator is famously detailed, and there are spaces for players to build and share their own creations. There are in-game purchases. It is rated PEGI 18. The makers recommend an RTX 2070 Super and 16 GB of memory, so it is fairly demanding and a stronger card helps.

What Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis needs

In plain words: to play at all it needs almost any graphics, even the graphics built into the processor, and to play it well the makers suggest a decent mid-range graphics card, with 16GB of memory.

A low-spec PC or a high-spec PC?

For this game the gap between the minimum and the recommended spec is big, so a better PC makes a very noticeable difference.

On a PC that only just meets the minimum, the game will start and play, but on low settings: simpler shadows and textures, shorter view distances and fewer frames each second, so fast moments can feel less smooth. A 1080p screen is the sensible match.

On a PC that meets or beats the recommended spec, you can turn the settings up: sharper textures, proper shadows and lighting, more detail in the distance, and a smoother picture. A stronger PC also lets you use a sharper 1440p or high-refresh screen.
