Sonic CD: PC requirements and the PC you need

About Sonic CD
Sonic CD is an enhanced version of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog game first released in 1993, rebuilt by Blit Software. Sonic races through the levels of Little Planet, travelling between the past, present and future to defeat Dr. Eggman, rescue Amy Rose and outrun Metal Sonic. It is single player and works well with a controller. It is rated PEGI 3. It is a simple game, so any of our gaming PCs plays it perfectly.
What Sonic CD needs
In plain words: to play at all it needs almost any graphics, even the graphics built into the processor, and to play it well the makers suggest not stated by the makers.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | 32MB or greater graphics card | - |
| Storage | 50MB free disc space | 50MB free disc space |
From the Steam store page, checked 29 October 2026. The makers sometimes change these; their page is always right.
Will my computer play Sonic CD?
On most computers we find the graphics card for you. Add your processor and memory, and we will tell you if it plays, and what to upgrade if not.
A low-spec PC or a high-spec PC?
This is a light game: almost any of our gaming PCs will run it comfortably.
On a PC that only just meets the minimum, the game will start and play, but on low settings: simpler shadows and textures, shorter view distances and fewer frames each second, so fast moments can feel less smooth. A 1080p screen is the sensible match.
On a PC that meets or beats the recommended spec, you can turn the settings up: sharper textures, proper shadows and lighting, more detail in the distance, and a smoother picture. A stronger PC also lets you use a sharper 1440p or high-refresh screen.

Questions about Sonic CD on PC
What graphics card do I need for Sonic CD?
The makers say the minimum is 32MB or greater graphics card. In plain words: almost any graphics, even the graphics built into the processor for a good experience.
Is Sonic CD multiplayer?
It is mainly a single-player game.
Can a gaming PC from Sandbox Computers run Sonic CD?
Our PCs meet the minimum spec. Ask us and we will suggest one that runs it well.
How we match: we compare the graphics card and the memory in each PC with the makers' spec, because those decide most of how a game runs. For very new or demanding games, ask us and we will check the processor too. More help: graphics cards explained, how much RAM, which screen.
