About War Thunder
War Thunder is a free-to-play military game from Gaijin Entertainment covering planes, tanks, helicopters and warships, from early 20th-century machines to modern jets. You take part in large battles on land, in the air and at sea, either in arcade-style matches or in more realistic simulator modes. It is played online with people on PC and consoles, and it is rated PEGI 16. The minimum spec is modest, but the makers recommend a GTX 1060 or RX 570 and 16 GB of memory for the best experience.
What War Thunder needs
In plain words: to play at all it needs basic graphics: built-in graphics on a modern processor, or an old entry-level card, and to play it well the makers suggest a mid-range graphics card from a few years ago, with 16GB of memory.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | DirectX 11 level video card: AMD Radeon 77XX / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. The minimum supported resolution for the game is 720p. | DirectX 11 level video card or higher and drivers: Nvidia GeForce 1060 and higher, Radeon RX 570 and higher |
| Processor | Dual-Core 2.2 GHz | Intel Core i5 or Ryzen 5 3600 or better |
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Storage | 70 GB available space | 95 GB available space |

Will my computer play War Thunder?
On most computers we find the graphics card for you. Add your processor and memory, and we will tell you if it plays, and what to upgrade if not.
A low-spec PC or a high-spec PC?
The gap between the minimum and recommended spec is modest, so a mid-range gaming PC gives a good experience.
On a PC that only just meets the minimum, the game will start and play, but on low settings: simpler shadows and textures, shorter view distances and fewer frames each second, so fast moments can feel less smooth. A 1080p screen is the sensible match.
On a PC that meets or beats the recommended spec, you can turn the settings up: sharper textures, proper shadows and lighting, more detail in the distance, and a smoother picture. A stronger PC also lets you use a sharper 1440p or high-refresh screen.

How we match: we compare the graphics card and the memory in each PC with the makers' spec, because those decide most of how a game runs. For very new or demanding games, ask us and we will check the processor too. More help: graphics cards explained, how much RAM, which screen.
